culture and connectedness

We envision a Detroit where all youth feel connected to their own culture, neighborhood, and community, with affinity for building a Detroit village.

The reality shows a long history of disenfranchisement in schools and government that strips feelings of empowerment and agency from our youth. Our community wants enhanced connectedness and engagement, with more embedded programming around Black history and culture, while boosting multicultural perceptions and a positive Village mentality. We want to increase belonging and opportunity for all youth— including those engaged in the foster care system and young people who identify as LGBTQIA+. We’re seeking positive outlets like mentorship programs as well as explorations and celebrations of Black history and culture, that span generations and build community connectedness.
