SAFETY AND ACCESS

Safe Neighborhoods and Access to Safe Spaces, Resources, Transportation
safety and access

We envision a Detroit in which all youth and families live in safe, mutually interdependent, well-funded, and self-sufficient communities with access to healthy food, quality education, recreation, and transportation.

The reality shows a shrinking Detroit population, with subsequent tax-based cuts in resources like schools and public transportation, concurrent with a significant rise in violent crime. Our community expresses the need for clean and supportive communities, sharing deep concerns over safety issues like gun violence. We want to develop more place-based community support with wifi hubs and intergenerational programs to strengthen neighborhoods, while offering environmental stewardship programming. We also are focusing on expanding transportation options (bus, e-bikes, carpools), as well as renewing the relationship between law enforcement and city residents.
